Psychotherapy and Politics Aotearoa takes its inspiration from Psychotherapy and Politics International (PPI) in exploring the connections and interactions between politics and psychotherapy, both in theory and in practice. Like PPI, we appreciate the application of political problematics of thinking that originates in the field of psychotherapy, and, equally, on the application within the field of psychotherapy of political concepts and values internationally.
However, as our name suggests, we are specifically focused on the local politics of and in psychotherapy, and the psychotherapy of and in politics and the political sphere, in, of, and from Aotearoa New Zealand. This includes engagement with tangata whenua; support for Waka Oranga, the national Māori rōpū of psychotherapists, psychological health practitioners, and health care providers; and an interest in local theory.
